Wellness travel focuses on the mental and/or physical to build and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It can include a wide variety of activities, from silent retreats to climbing expeditions. But common among all of them is the desire to go home with a higher level of well-being.

Wellness travel can refer to such a wide variety of activities that it can be a bit confusing. Below are the different categories you can expect to find when researching retreats.

Go Off The Grid

In our ever-connected world, many people want to get off the grid. Take a vacation that forces you to disconnect. Retreats with no Wi-Fi in remote locations could be the way to get you off your phone and let your Out of Office email handle your inbox at work.

Learn Something New

Take a vacation with an educational component. Cooking classes, yoga certification courses, really any class can be considered wellness if it allows you to fully focus and get into a consistent state of flow.

Get Healthier

As the name implies, wellness travel is about being healthy and well. A trip to put you on the right track or take your fitness to the next level, there are retreats that cover any number of activities. The other side of the coin is a retreat that focuses solely on mental health. I generally consider these to be yoga and meditation retreats.

Relax and Recharge

Sometimes a spa is all you need to feel recharged. Getting pampered day-in and day-out can do wonders, and is a well-trodden path in the wellness travel industry.
